The new trend and life style is influencing the tourism: let`s talk about digital nomads.
After the pandemic and with the increasement of social media`s usage, the working world has changed. Many people begun online businesses through social medias and others have the possibility to work in big companies, with enough flexibility to do their job with a laptop from anywhere.
What is relevant for the tourism? Basically, long stay reservations in apartments have increased, especially for cheaper accommodation options as for example Airbnb. In any case, touristic places and beach areas have now different business, which in some countries have even changed the parameters of revenue calculation by introducing a new segmentation during the seasons. Moreover, long stay tourists are more inclined to stay in a touristic area during the low season too.
But let`s understand more about this very modern lifestyle.
There are different kind of digital nomads and of course different ways to categorize them.
Digital nomads are working as remote workers, travel bloggers, bloggers, youtubers, streamers, consultants and many others. Based on the kind of job, any digital nomads have a certain lifestyle. For example, travel bloggers are used to change location every week, whereas remote workers can stay in the same place even for six months straight. However, the location varies according to own likes and dislikes.
Most of the digital nomads are requesting apartments through Airbnb, in order to have better prices and comfortable places to work. For example, the trends for Europeans and Americans are Canary Islands and Thailand. Sure enough, these places are offering a lot of accommodations with exotic views and amazing beaches. Others would rather lodge in small villages, other in big cities, mountains or in the nature. In short, there is such a big choice around our amazing world, that many people working in the tourism are allowed to profit from this lifestyle.
As concerns lodgings, undoubtedly apartments are most popular. Furtherly, there are hybrid solutions which hotels were offering during the pandemic. Cities and areas visited by digital nomads are still offering this service. This allows to have a very cheaper accommodation and a great working station at the same time. There are even big offices converted into coworking stations, where rentable desks are meeting all comforts of an office. This trend was already on the market, but now is surely more popular.
On the other hand, there are digital nomads who don`t really need to use a working station. For them a café on the beach can be enough to complete the daily assignments. If we consider bloggers and ghost writers, all they need is the best view or the most beautiful foreshortening, able to stimulate the creativity.
As the world changed, the tourism changed too. Ten years ago, this lifestyle was a kind of dream. Very few people had this privilege. But today a lot of people can travel, visiting different countries while working. The tourism is adapting to the new trends. A lot of lodging properties and real estate agents are taking advantage of the new working world, by providing new offers, services and packages specifically designed for digital nomads.
