Working parents: how to organize your job

If you have kids and you don`t know excatly how to organize your time, you should read this article. Are you a working mom or a working dad? This article “working parents: how to organize your job” is dedicated to moms and dads working in toursim, hospitality and gastronomy.

There are women that during the maternity want to stay with the kids at home and decide to quit the job. Other will reduce the job working part time, whereas other mothers want to work full time. Nowadays the same situation is for dads. Today we see a lot men reducing the workload or staying home, in order to take care of the kids.  

Let’s start to say that evrything is ok: there are different economic sitiuations, possibilities, wishes and plans for the future. Indeed, sometimes is not about what a person want. But tehre are other circumstances and all people should be respected for their choices.  

If you want to continue your career in hospitality, gastronomy or tourism, everything is possible and when you have kids the keyword is: ORGANIZATION. Working parents need to organize time and finance.  
If you want to work part-time or full-time, there are few facts to take into account.  

The first step is to assure the childcare: maybe you have your family close by or there is a day care center available in your town. Next, you can start to organize your working days based on timing and costing. 
There are some departments, especially in gastronomy and hospitality, which are offering always different shifts. It might be a positive as a negative point. For example: if your partner is doing an office job from Monday to Friday and he has always the weekend off, you can work during the weekend or you can find a late shift job.

Opposite, if your partner is working at the reception desk or in the kitchen, doing differnet shifts, you can organize your job based on the childcare schedule time from Monday to Friday.  
If you must reorganize your job, check all options with your head of department or with the HR. They should help in these sitautions and it would be perfect to find a win win solution.  

If there is not possibility to do other shifts, maybe you can start a formation course. In this way, you can try to change department or company. For instance, if you work at the reception desk and you can`t work at the evening, maybe you can start a marketing course. Afterwards, you can try to move with another job position to the marketing department, beginning an office job. 

The point is that all situations are very differenet and there are not rules. Surely there must be first of all an accordance between partners or family. If you are single without a family close by, the situation might be a bit different, but not impossible. In any case, ask in your town which options are available and of course, if there are financial helps.  

Life with kids has other priorities and you will go through sitautions in other ways comparing to life before kids. But if you want to focus on your career goals too. It is totally comprehensible and you should go ahead by organizing accurately the days.  
We must face the truth: sometimes parents are not accepted and are still discriminated in 2023. This issue is related to women only. There are some companies or people which are still thinking that hiring a mom is a problem. 

Nevetheless, remember that the world is wide. You must always feel free to make changes in your life. Changes for the good of your family, of your future and, above all, of yourself.
